Educators are innovators.
Sound Tech Ed was started by Gillian Desmarais, a K-12 Music Production and General Music Teacher in Maplewood, MN. Her previous schools include Pioneer Charter School or Science in Everett, MA and Hanover Public Middle School in Hanover, MA. She has an extraordinary passion for helping communities learn and grow with music technology. As a current music technology graduate student at New York University, she is currently performing IRB research in collaboration with Dr. Alex Ruthmann, Director of the NYU MusEDLab, for developing curriculum, new music ensembles, and web-applications for music learning. She is in constant collaboration with industry leading companies like Ableton Live and Yamaha to develop future tools and curriculum for the classroom. She also routinely presents professional development workshops online and at national and international conferences. Additionally, she helps organize workshops at many colleges including New York University, Berklee College of Music, UMass Amherst, and Rhode Island College. Gillian is also a singer, song-writer and multi-instrumentalist who records, edits, mixes, and masters original compositions. Her EP title track “Angel” received first place in the 2016 Electronic Composition Competition, hosted by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
