Education for Teachers

The exciting task of teaching with technology begins with your own passion for modern music. Who’s your favorite musician, composer or singer-songwriter? What music inspires you; makes you want to dance, or listen for hours on repeat? It’s moments like these that we ultimately share with our students, regardless of genre, musician or age. We also identify with the music we like, which adds another layer of importance. Ultimately, our goal, regardless of teaching the art of music, is to inspire a love of music. Most of our students who walk into our classroom, will define themselves as non-musicians. They likely have not played an instrument and do not see themselves as the “type” to pursue it. The good news is that with music technology any student, regardless of skill, training, age or disability can become a composer. With web tools accessible to all students, even the most apathetic student may find new meaning and purpose creating the music they know and love.

So, where to begin? With so many tools and technologies out there, it can definitely be overwhelming and almost discouraging to learn. Regardless, remember that we are all on this journey together. Embracing the unknown is part of the excitement of doing something new for the first time. Once you’ve taken the first step the rest is pretty simple. Let your passion and excitement for music motivate your lessons. Be willing to grow alongside your students. It’s an exciting and fulfilling journey that will leave your students inspired, valued and ready for more!
